This incredible device has no moving parts, and features touch sensitive tiles with built in sensors and accelerometers. These tiles detect the touch and lights quickly follow the swipe of the finger, emulating a twist or a turn of the face. Rubik’s cube flawlessly detects and performs the movements to completely mimic the original cube. The build in processor knows the exact number of turns needed to solve the touch cube at any given instant, but can also assist those in need with a hint or a simple solution! Touch cube can even sound like a real thing (this cube comes with original and digital sound effects built in). Rubik’s cube comes with a charging station, but once placed to recharge, it automatically solves itself (if you’ve given up) and dazzles the audience with an incredible light display.

The cube itself is a little larger and heavier than its older brother. Some tiles have special icons, double clicking which will perform a desired action. There are a few drawbacks as well. Touch Cube is a little too sensitive and frequently slides where it shouldn’t. Sliding the line will only work on the side facing up, making it at times awkward to solve. It is definitely designed for an average user in mind, rather than a tactical, strategic player who turns the sides without even looking at them.

Rubik’s Cube will be available sometime in October, for about $150 at Amazon and Best Buy. Despite its popularity, Touch cube is unlikely to make it to the top of the Christmas shopping list. It still requires some fine tuning and price is definitely way too high for an average consumer.

There are some great applications that can turn your mobile phone or smartphone device into a golf GPS. Many have free trial periods (or are totally free!). Some of these applications, like GreenFinder, GolfShot, and FreeCaddie Pro have most, if not all, of the features of the standalone units, and, at a fraction of the price, they are certainly worth a try.

GreenFinder works on Blackberry, iPhone 3G, Android, and Windows Mobile phones. You can download and use it five times for free. It gives you distances to the front, center, and back of the green, as well as distances to fairway hazards and the distance of your last shot. You can even map your own courses with the GreenFinder golf GPS.

GolfShot works only on the iPhone 3G and is comparable to any of the standalone golf gps devices. With the iPhone’s touchscreen capability you can pinpoint any spot by touching it: GolfShot will calculate the distances from your current position to that spot and from that spot to the center of the green. It shows distances to green, fairway hazards, and special layups. It also has aerial views of the course and keeps automatic statistics that are displayed with wonderful graphics.

FreeCaddie Pro works on Blackberry, iPhone 3G/3GS, Windows Mobile, and Java enabled phones. Google Branded Smartphone Nearing Towards 2012 Release

It has been in the pipeline for almost four years, but finally Google appears to be nearing the completion of its very own branded smartphone. Manufactured in conjunction with Taiwanese giants HTC, Google engineers across the globe are currently testing the latest prototype, labelled ‘Nexus One’.

It appears that Google will be favouring the sale of its very own smartphone as an unlocked handset, giving users the freedom to choose their own network for usage. The word is that the handset will go on sale across the United States in the New Year before venturing across the Atlantic to Western Europe later in 2012.

The Google-branded smartphone is powered by the Android operating system. Open source OS, Android is now a realistic challenger to the likes of Symbian and the Apple OS found in Nokia and iPhone devices respectively.

At present Google has allowed its mobile operators to brand and sell its Android handsets. It would appear that this has failed to help the Android platform to become a household name on the smartphone market. As a result, Google has made this move to take charge of its own branding and production in order to take greater control of its products.

Google introduced the Android operating system to its handsets towards the end of 2007, with the HTC G1 making a statement before the HTC Magic and HTC Hero introduced Android to the mainstream mobile consumer market this year.

Recent photos have been leaked regarding the design of this latest Google phone, with the screen appearing slightly bigger than its iPhone competitor and a trackball reminiscent of the HTC Magic.

With innovative programs such as Google Voice and Google Wave ready for action, Google is ready to experiment with its smartphone capabilities in 2012.
